Shelving weedbeds
In some bass lakes, the layer of surface weeds may finish, but an underwater layer of weeds will often continue out for quite some distance. This shallow band of water over the top of the submerged weeds is a great place to fish with Prism Murrins but it requires a slightly different approach.
Firstly, you need to position the boat so that you are a comfortable casting distance out from the weeds. Then you cast your lure back towards the surface weeds and allow it to sink for just a second or two before commencing a steady retrieve (again you can call it a slow roll if you like).
The aim of this presentation is to get your lure swimming along just above the top of the submerged weeds. It’s a bit tricky to time things exactly right, but if you can make your lure slowly dawdle along, just occasionally touching the top of the submerged weeds, you will really catch some bass (the technique also works very well on Barramundi). The great thing about the Prism Murrin #2 is that it will vibrate along at a very slow pace, allowing this kind of retrieve to be used.

For less than half the price of the Japanese imports, the Prism Murrin is your best bet for weed bound bass!
Of course, you will pick up a bit of weed at times too, but if you aren’t down there close to the top of the submerged vegetation, then you are lessening your chances of getting a fish as well.

While your lure can get hit at any time, the strike is most likely to come as your lure reaches the edge of the submerged weeds, just as it makes it into open water. Be prepared as this is where some of the biggest bass will be encountered and you may be surprised at just how powerful bass become once they grow past the 50cm barrier. Best to check your drag is smooth and be ready for some powerful runs.

Not all weedbed bass will be monsters but they are all fun to catch.
So there you have it... You definitely don’t need to spend more than $10 to get yourself a great bass lure. All you need to do is visit your local tackleshop and pick up a Trollcraft Prism Murrin 2. Then find yourself a nice weedbed in your local bass lake and get fishing!
