Fishing Darwin, May 2007

Trollcraft "Research and Development Division"

Darwin is a great place to be a fisho. There are just so many opportunities to catch great fish and so many great places to do it.

Monday morning was spent trolling around Darwin Harbour using TrollCraft Doomu lures and rigged up with Pioneer 40lb Invisible Flurocarbon leader, Pioneer Tuna Terror Multi Coloured Braid and a Pioneer  Perfect Cast Barra Rod & Reel combination.

We were were onboard with local guide and fishing expert Chris Hurt. Chris has a great knowledge of Darwin and knows the right lures to get into the fish. Chris had us all battling Queenfish in short time!

Queenies love Trollcraft Doomu's

Straight away we saw the benefits of the Tuna Terror multi coloured braid when trolling. Most of this style of braid is used for jigging or vertical fishing where the angler wants to see at what depth the fish are as the braid changes colour every ten metres. When trolling the multi colours allowed us to set our lures at the distance they got hit last time. Three colours out equals thiry metres back. It's as easy as that!

The Queenies all gave good account of themselves, most coming in at around the 6 kilo mark. There was certainly a trend in the colour lure they liked, the Doomu in colour 31 'Bleeding Mullet' was the flavour they were keen on. There is a good chance it was the striking contrast of the red bars on the silver sides in the murky water that was helping get the results.

Another Queenie on #31 Doomu!

Not long after releasing another Queenfish Marks rod took off like it had a Queenie with a shark up its tail on the end! By the way this thing fought it was pretty obvious it wasn't a Queenfish, but the Perfect Cast rod and reel combo took care of it. In short time we saw the culprit, a good 25lb or so Giant Trevally at the boat.

Perfect Cast Rod with the perfect curve!

GT's are renowned for their fighting ability, like the Kingfish of the North but one thats been to the gym! The GT had taken a Doomu in colour 51, a gold and black backed lure with vibrant red glass eyes. These lures are designed for barra but will handle most of the tropical species you come accross up north. Being pressure tested to 150 feet, ultrasonically welded and fitted with HD VMC trebles and USA split rings means they stand up to punishment!

Doomu's stand the test of GT's

Day one was a great day out on Darwin Harbour with Chris. For the morning we landed a dozen queenies and got stuck into the GT's. All a stone's throw from Darwin Town Centre! We sure were looking forward to Day two with George!
